Alan Shanken is Senior Vice President in Private Wealth Management. Throughout his career, Alan has demonstrated a commitment to understanding clients' financial goals and objectives, crafting intricate solutions, and monitoring outcomes to ensure success. He is well-versed in the complexities faced by shareholders managing concentrated equity positions, whether in private or public companies, and addresses the trust and estate planning needs associated with such interests.
Alan’s focus on wealth planning also encompasses next-generation and philanthropic initiatives. Additionally, Alan has a strong foundation in investor psychology, behavioral finance, and historical market trends, enabling him to deliver comprehensive insights and strategies.
Alan began his career in 1982 (DJIA closed at 1,046.54) on the floor of the Pacific Options Exchange and transitioned into wealth management in 1984 with EF Hutton. He joined UBS in 2015, following an 18-year tenure at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Credit Suisse, as well as previous experience at Lehman Brothers.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Alan is passionate about philanthropy, particularly in promoting sports and fitness for individuals with physical challenges. In 2010, he became a national board member of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and, since 2017, has served as the founder and co-chair of the Celebration of Heart Gala, supporting CAF’s fundraising efforts in the Bay Area. He plays an instrumental role in the University of Arizona’s Adaptive Athletics Program and is a nationally recognized mentor within the adaptive athletic community. Alan is a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco, where he enjoys golfing and open water swimming.
