Obesity therapies: Weighing the impact

Obesity is among the world’s largest public health crises, with the number of impacted adults projected to jump 50% by 2030.

 During the past year, treatment methods have rapidly evolved. There is heightened enthusiasm around prescription weight loss drugs, especially GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) medications, which were originally developed to treat Type II diabetes. GLP-1s1 can regulate appetite and have emerged as a new generation of anti-obesity drugs after showing strong efficacy in helping non-diabetics lose weight.
