Senior Vice President–Wealth Management
Visionary Private Wealth Advisor with three decades of experience and market knowledge
Growing up in rural Wisconsin, Tom Mahoney worked on neighboring farms lifting hay bales. He learned to think of money in terms of the labor it takes to earn it, and therefore as an irreplaceable resource. So in his first year in this business, when he watched the market fall 23% in one day, he learned immediately to expect the unexpected and that safety of principal should be his first priority. Those are his guiding principles today, 32 years later as a UBS Private Wealth Advisor and strategic thinker of The Mahoney Group.
At E.F. Hutton, Tom learned the investment management consulting business—how to select and monitor money managers. At Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), he excelled at capital markets trading and placed institutional-sized allotments of private equity. After earning the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter in 2001, he focused intensely on the art of capital protection and wealth management. This experience helped him understand both the practical, hands-on, capital markets side and the academic theory.

Financial Advisor
As Senior Wealth Strategy Associate for The Mahoney Group, David supports the day-to-day business activities of the team and strives to deliver quality execution of client services. He is responsible for trading, investment strategy implementation, rebalancing portfolios and preparing financial plans. While he enjoys the strategic and academic aspects of planning and managing risk to assist clients in pursuing life goals, David also digs deeper into clients' emotional connections with their wealth, and how this can impact their choices and financial decisions.
Being a Chartered Financial Analyst enables the implementation of portfolio theory and financial planning, while being a member in the CFA Society provides access to stay up-to-date on the most current thinking in wealth management and finance.
David began investing while he was in college and experienced the market crash of 1987 firsthand. His interest in the intersection of the capital markets and economics continued when he was a CPA at Ernst & Young, where he learned financial reporting and tax planning from working with some of the largest corporations. These skills allows him to look at his clients' full balance sheet, including assets, liabilities and cash flow more meticulously. His current investment process reflects those skills, as well as his 10 years of experience as an institutional research analyst and mutual fund portfolio manager.
