Barrons – How the pandemic accelerated sustainable investing
Forbes – Diversity in wealth management
Mark is a global visionary ambassador.
The difference your wealth can make
Around the world, investors are participating in sustainable investment strategies, incorporating social, environmental and governance factors into their investment decisions. Through impact investing, one type of sustainable approach, we are helping many of our clients use their wealth to contribute toward a more renewable society—as well as a potentially profitable portfolio.
What qualifies as an impact investment
In addition to the generation of financial returns, three other criteria define an impact investment solution:
ESG Investing Risk–Environmental, Social and Governance factors may inhibit a portfolio manager’s ability to participate in certain investment opportunities that otherwise would be consistent with its investment objective and other principal investment strategies. Underlying companies in a particular fund may not necessarily meet exemplary standards in all aspects of ESG performance; nor is any company perfect when it comes to corporate responsibility or sustainability.
Business sale and transition
So many factors—with both short- and long-term consequences—come into play when you’re considering selling your company. More often, it’s life changing—for owners, their families and those next in line. To gain the greatest benefit, we believe you shouldn’t make a decision of this magnitude alone. Our early involvement can help you address the complicated issues.
Value, planning and purpose
As a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), Drew McLaughlin understands what you need to exit confidently from your business: A plan for maximizing your company's value, comprehensive personal financial planning and “life-after” planning that addresses what’s next for you post-exit.
Timing is everything
Selling a business is neither quick nor easy. And though it appears counterintuitive, and difficult emotionally, the best time to sell is when your company is thriving. Why? Buyers are attracted to strong historical results and perceived future growth. Stepping aside may feel contrary to your entrepreneurial instincts but being prepared to identify and take advantage of the right time is critical.
Teaching responsible stewardship of family wealth
Our clients are deeply concerned about the role—positive and negative—that wealth will play in their families. They want their wealth to foster positive outcomes, not only for their children, but for future generations as well. They are looking to the next generation to become responsible stewards of their family wealth.
Start the conversation early, and keep talking
How does your family make and implement financial decisions? Do your children participate in discussions about joint family assets and inheritance? We believe that a successful wealth transition depends on having regular, age-appropriate conversations with the next generation about wealth. We can help guide your family through these sensitive conversations, step-by-step, using our established Wealth Transition Framework.
Engage with philanthropy
We have found that philanthropy can be a great tool to start educating the next generation on both the process of investing and the positive impact wealth can have. In fact, UBS research tells us that families with well-defined philanthropic efforts tend to hold onto their wealth more successfully across generations.
The five hallmarks of a successful sale
Move forward with confidence in possibly the biggest venture of your life. We can help advise and orchestrate your entire team of experts throughout the sale process and beyond.
