Managing Director–Wealth Management
Private Wealth Advisor
Guiding complex decisions with experience and perspective
John is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at The Garvey Clark Hooper Wealth Management Group. He works with business owners, senior executives, medical professionals and multigenerational families facing complex financial decisions. His work centers on estate and legacy planning, business succession and exit planning, executive compensation and long-term investment strategy. As a UBS Institutional Consultant and Private Wealth Advisor, John focuses on portfolio oversight, helping align his clients’ investment decisions with their broader planning objectives and real-world responsibilities.
John is the senior member of our multi-generational advisory team, which is structured to support families over the long term. Our team draws on a range of experience and perspectives to deliver tailored, relevant guidance as your family, assets and responsibilities evolve. His goal is to provide continuity to his clients today, and a consistent advisory presence designed to endure across generations.
After three decades at UBS, John has developed deep institutional knowledge of the firm’s capabilities, tools and global platform. He has built strong internal relationships he can leverage to help clients access target advice and tailored solutions as their situations grow more complex. In a profession shaped by constant change, John believes longevity, judgment and institutional knowledge are meaningful advantages for clients making long-term decisions.
A disciplined approach to long-term responsibility
John approaches wealth management with the understanding that financial decisions often reflect far more than numbers. For many clients, wealth represents years of effort, risk and responsibility, along with expectations for future generations. His role is to help clients think carefully about those responsibilities and make decisions that balance opportunity with discipline, particularly during periods of transition.
John holds the Private Wealth Advisor and UBS Institutional Consultant designations, a distinction earned by only a small number of UBS advisors. This dual designation allows him to provide both highly personalized private wealth advice to individuals and institutional level planning, investment policy and financial guidance for nonprofit and institutional organizations such as foundations and endowments.
John believes the firm behind the advice matters. The global presence and focus on private wealth management at UBS means his clients’ assets are supported by a powerful institution with long-term perspective. His objective is to help clients feel comfortable in their financial decisions and the platform supporting them.

Private Wealth Advisor
Serving families across generations with clarity and continuity
Matt is a Senior Vice President and Private Wealth Advisor at The Garvey Clark Hooper Wealth Management Group with over 20 years of experience working with multigenerational families. His focus is on comprehensive financial planning, retirement and education planning, estate and legacy strategies and securities-backed lending. As a Senior Portfolio Manager, Matt is actively involved in portfolio design and oversight, while also coordinating the team’s wealth management process to help ensure strategies are implemented thoughtfully and adjusted as needed.
Working with a highly collaborative, multigenerational advisory team allows Matt to support families over time, not just at a single point of need. The team brings together advisors with different experiences and perspectives, which helps conversations stay practical, balanced and grounded as families and responsibilities evolve. By working closely with families across generations, the team helps keep everyone aligned, providing continuity and consistency even as life inevitably changes.
Matt has spent his entire career at UBS, building deep institutional knowledge of the firm’s tools, offerings and global capabilities. His wide internal and external network helps him efficiently find solutions and make referrals for his clients when their needs become more complex. In an industry that changes constantly, Matt focuses on the stability and longevity of his team and the powerful resources of UBS to serve his clients.
Thoughtful planning backed by experience and purpose
Matt approaches wealth management with the understanding that money decisions are rarely just financial. They are often tied to family dynamics, long-term responsibilities and the desire to do the right thing for the people who matter most. His role is to help families cut through complexity, organize competing priorities and move forward with a better sense of direction and purpose.
He believes good advice should feel steady and grounded, especially when decisions feel overwhelming. Rather than leading with products or predictions, Matt focuses on thoughtful planning, clear communication and follow-through. He works closely with clients to help them understand their options, weigh trade-offs and make decisions that align with both their goals and their values.
Matt is a Private Wealth Advisor and a UBS Institutional Consultant. This dual designation, held by only a small group of UBS Advisors, allows him to support high- and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) families as well as institutional organizations such as foundations and endowments.
Matt places strong emphasis on where assets are held. He believes the platform supporting a financial plan is just as important as the plan itself. For Matt, that support means families can spend less time making decisions and more time living the lives they’ve worked hard to build.
