Rich decided on pursuing a career in investments after taking a class in Money and Banking while in college; subsequent to his graduation from Allegheny College in 1985 with a degree in Economics he began his career at Paine Webber. Since then he has advised clients through great and tumultuous times beginning with the market crash of 1987; the tech boom and bust of the 90's; 9/11 and the subsequent lost decade; the market meltdown of 2008-2009 and the Great Recession.
Through his broad experience Rich is able to provide clients with a realistic perspective on building wealth, generating future income streams and giving more of their estate to heirs rather than the government. His continued success and longevity serving clients in financial services comes from a daily commitment to patience, concern, empathy, understanding and a genuine interest in the markets and all things macroeconomic. Rich holds the series 7 and 66 securities licenses, as well as life, health and long-term care insurance licenses. Furthermore, Rich earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation demonstrating his dedication to the highest level of professionalism in serving his clients.
Additionally, to his career he is active in Orange Rotary; he currently serves as President of the Orange Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and also on the executive board for the Orange Visiting Nurse Association. He is past president of the Paugussett Pool and Tennis club and past chair of the Woodruff Family YMCA formerly Milford Orange YMCA board. Also, he is an officer of the Knights of Columbus Council 10705. Free time is spent running daily, tending to his chickens and koi as well as gardening. These activities enable Rich to relax, rest his mind and reinvigorate his energy. He enjoys participating in the Fairfield Half Marathon and New Haven Road Race annually when able. Gardening is not only a hobby but a passion as he is well known for his delicious vegetables and generous spirit -- always happy to share the bounty of his garden. Rich resides in Orange with his wife Joan and children.
For more than 25 years, Dick has successfully helped clients manage their wealth through a number of volatile market cycles. With a Ph.D. in Business specializing in financial management and behavioral finance, Dick focuses on portfolio management which includes analyzing companies in-depth before investing and importantly, allocating uncorrelated assets within a market cycle to minimize the portfolio’s volatility. Dick tailors each portfolio to each client's specific risk profile and needs. In particular, Dick constructs portfolios that provide increasing income for those investors who are retired in order to hedge against inflation.
When not monitoring the global financial markets, Dick, as an adjunct professor, enjoys teaching graduate school students finance courses including principles of investments, portfolio analysis and management, and managerial finance with a focus on business ethics and a Christian worldview. As an extension of helping young people in a different venue, Dick for decades has reached out to inner-city kids by instructing them on the importance of family values and complemented this effort by being involved with a number of charities.
Before managing portfolios, Dick, with undergraduate and graduate degrees in materials science, conducted research and development in advanced alloys and advanced metallurgical processes for over a decade. Joan has always been a naturally inquisitive person which helped guide her to what she calls the "financial solutions" industry. Her first career matched her skills perfectly. Being the youngest buyer in Ames Stores history was not surprising for the 23 year old clothing buyer; there she learned the art of negotiating, managing a million dollar budget, creating a marketing plan, tracking sales and overseeing a team. After marriage to Richard and the arrival of their first daughter, traveling to the Orient on an overseas buying trip seemed daunting. Soon realizing what many women before her already knew; children plus current job do not equal a perfect, manageable, financially sound new life. Exploring the day care world proved exhausting and costly. Emotions trumped finances and she decided to be a stay-at-home Mom ignoring the key considerations of income, health care coverage, saving for the future and paying into social security. Joan chose family over career but through community involvement, volunteering and part time positions kept her skills sharp until the time was right to pursue her career.
Joan returned to work as a realtor, achieving $1,000,000 in first year sales. Soon thereafter she took a position in mortgage financing. It exposed the universal worries of the masses: debt, income, family and saving for the future. As a result of a referral from a friend, Joan was introduced to the insurance business. Always a lifelong learner, she attained her life, health and accident insurance license and began a dynamic career at New York Life. She enjoyed the complexities of insurance planning and explaining all the benefits it could provide.
Subsequently, she became well acquainted with a wealth planning team at UBS. After some consideration she joined the team in 2014 and transitioned into the role of Wealth Strategy Associate. Here she supports the team in the development of wealth management strategies, marketing efforts and client service. Her time is dedicated to client service and assisting the team in all critical areas. While in this role, Joan earned her designation as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst enhancing her knowledge on the immediate and long-term financial implications of divorce.
During these exciting years Joan has had the pleasure of serving on the Turkey Hill School PTA Executive Board, the Executive Board of the Orange Chamber of Commerce, the Sacred Heart Academy Advisory Board and the Board of Directors for the Orange Lions Club. In 2014 she received the Ambassador of Sight award from the Orange Lion's club for her volunteerism. When not at work you can find her reading, walking, playing tennis and testing new food recipes.
