Mike joined UBS in the summer of 2023. He began his career with Merrill in 1993, and has dedicated himself to understanding the priorities of highly affluent families and Institutional relationships.
Mike is a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. When servicing clients through the Firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Portfolio Manager may manage his strategies on a discretionary basis. He and his team provide access to the investment insights and the banking convenience of UBS to help address the various aspects of clients’ financial lives. He works with clients to help identify their goals and needs including; asset allocation, education funding, retirement income planning, tax-minimization strategies and estate-planning services. He then commits himself to crafting financial strategies designed to help clients pursue desired outcomes, while building, managing and preserving their wealth for current and future generations.
Mike holds both his Certified Private Wealth Advisor® and Certified Investment Management Analyst® awarded by the Investments & Wealth Institute™. He also holds the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® designation, awarded by The College for Financial Planning Institutes Corp. He holds the Series 7, 9, 10, 31, 63 and 65 FINRA registrations. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, he and his family are very active in community services and local charities.
Ladd concentrates on helping high-net-worth families and businesses pursue their long-term financial goals. His focus is on the team’s goal tracking system and portfolio management. Ladd is a specially qualified Senior Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. Senior Portfolio Managers are provided a high degree of flexibility in constructing portfolios and selecting securities. When servicing clients through the Firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Senior Portfolio Manager may manage his strategies on a discretionary basis. After meeting certain additional requirements, a Senior Portfolio Manager may use his own strategies to manage the assets of clients.
Ladd holds Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) and Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) designations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of South Carolina and an MBA from the University of South Carolina. He is active in his church and enjoys working out with friends. He and his wife, Laurie, live in Northeast Columbia and have two children, Reese and Caroline.
Shufy joined UBS in the summer of 2023. Prior to that, he spent five years in the banking industry before joining Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in 1986. He has more than 30 years of experience providing financial and wealth management services. His primary areas of focus are wealth management, retirement strategies, portfolio strategies and assistance in securities selection. He works with individuals, families, small businesses and foundations, assisting them in the pursuit of long-term financial and life goals. He works primarily with high-net-worth individuals and couples who are new to the wealth management process. An avid runner, Shufy has completed seven marathons. He and his wife, Kay, have two sons, Nick and Marshall. They live in the Forest Acres area of Columbia, South Carolina.
Brent began his career 2001 and is earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, CFP® certification, awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. His primary role is assisting clients in defining their financial priorities and offering strategies to help them pursue their goals. He also focuses on liability management, corporate retirement services and the allocation of initial public offerings for the Columbia office.
Brent earned his bachelor’s degree in management and marketing from the University of South Carolina, where he was captain of the men’s golf team. Brent and his wife, Betsy, have two kids, Price and Kate.
Tom’s primary duties for the team include working with high-net-worth individuals and corporate retirement programs in the creation and implementation of portfolios geared toward their individual goals. Tom oversees the mutual fund platform utilized by TCG & Associates and is responsible for analyzing fund performance and allocation changes. In addition, he is in charge of the analysis and recommendation of specific structured products. Tom graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He and his wife, Beverly, live in Columbia.
A Citadel Alumni educated in Political Science, William Velasco started his career with in Wealth Management in 2014. He began working with Merrill Lynch in the large corporate equity and retirement plan field with Fortune 500 companies in Atlanta, Georgia before relocating and continuing to building his career in his hometown Columbia, South Carolina. William went on to earn his Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor®℠, CRPC®, and Certified Exit Planning Advisor® CEPA® designations.
William has been named to Forbes/SHOOK “America’s Top Next-Generation Wealth Advisors” list in 2018(Published on July 25, 2018. Rankings based on data as of March 31, 2018)* as well as named to Forbes “Best-in-State Next-Generation Wealth Advisors” list in 2019 (Published on September 4, 2019. Rankings based on data as of March 31, 2019)*, his achievements and experience allows him to assist clients to identify their primary financial goals and needs. William is extremely committed to crafting financial strategies designed to help clients as they pursue desired outcomes which include managing, preserving, and taking care of their wealth for future generations and endeavors.
Philanthropy and serving his community has always been something that is paramount to William. He has recently become the Subcommittee Chair on the board for the Young Leaders Society through the organization United Way of the Midlands, Special Olympics of South Carolina Gala Committee in 2019, and officially a member of The Columbia Rotary Chapter. William is constantly seeking out new organizations in order to further serve his community.
Paula joined UBS in the summer of 2023. Prior to joining, she was a Merrill Banking Advisor from Bank of America, advising clients on lending and liquidity strategies before transitioning into the Financial Advisor role with TCG& Associates.
Paula is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Aiken with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Management, Magna Cum Laude. Paula earned her Masters of Business Administration from USC in June 2017. Paula focuses on Wealth Management strategies to help her clients meet their financial goals. Paula holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, CFP® certification and the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®, CDFA® certification.
Paula is the President and the founding member of the Columbia chapter of the Women's Exchange which began in September 2014. Paula is passionate about educating women and has created a Women’s Educational Series focusing on different topics important to women, including wealth planning, health and wellness and estate planning services.
Paula resides in Columbia, SC with her children Cody, Elizabeth and Samuel. She is very active in her community through volunteer activities with Special Olympics, Junior Achievement, Transitions Homeless Shelter, Boys and Girls Club, and Harvest Hope Food Bank and board service with the South Carolina Philharmonic. She serves as a liaison for the Bank of America Community Volunteers Committee. In her spare time she enjoys reading, Pure Barre workout classes, visiting the beach and spending time with friends and family.
Rachel considers herself a problem-solver and has demonstrated a talent for interacting well with clients. When timely answers are needed on account questions, Rachel is often the first stop for advisors and clients. Rachel currently lives in Lexington, South Carolina with her husband Michael, her two sons, Walker and Beau, and her two dogs. She enjoys traveling, the beach, and cheering on the USC Gamecocks.

Harris Joined the TCG and associates team in August of 2022 with one year of experience in the financial industry with Vanguard. Harris is a graduate of the Darla Moore School of business where he majored in Finance and data analytics. Harris looks forward to serving the clients of our team with a proactive attitude, great communication skills, and attention to detail. Outside of work, you can catch Harris on the lake or at the golf course. Harris resides in Columbia.
Zach joined the TCG & Associates team in August of 2021. As an Investment Management Specialist, his focus is on helping clients develop potential solutions and providing investment guidance for individuals, families, businesses, foundations, and endowments by understanding their short- and long-term financial objectives. Zach focuses on offering a comprehensive approach to managing wealth that begins with listing to a client's needs and helps to ensure every potential solution is grounded in understanding what each client wants to achieve. He focuses on investment analysis, investment manager research, and portfolio construction.
Zach holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA®) designation. He earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina, graduating with honors from the South Carolina Honors College. An avid sports fan, he loves to support all Gamecock athletics programs, and can usually be found working out or enjoying the local coffee shop scene in his free time. He and his wife, Calli, live in Lexington with their dog, Lilo.
Lexie joined the TCG & Associates team Full time in 2019. She is a graduate of Darla Moore School of Business, at the University of South Carolina where she double majored in Business Management and Marketing. She currently holds her Accredited Asset Management Specialist® designation. She assists clients and the advisor team in a variety of administrative and support functions, delivering customized service support to clients and a high level of internal services to the advisor team. She appreciates being part of a group that plays a key role as the team helps clients manage their investments to pursue their desired retirement lifestyle. Lexie lives in Downtown Columbia with her husband Tucker and their 2 dogs.
Chance joined the TCG & Associates team in November of 2022 with three years of experience in the financial services industry. Chance is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he majored in Sport and Entertainment Management. He currently holds the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® designation. As a client associate, Chance aims to make every conversation and interaction meaningful and enjoyable while doing everything he can to resolve and fulfill any client concerns, needs or concerns in a timely and efficient manner.
Outside of work, Chance is an avid college football fan and will spend most Saturdays in the fall tailgating with his friends and family to watch their beloved Gamecocks play. Chance and his wife, Anna, also love to travel and frequently visit Disney World and Edisto Beach. Chance and Anna live in Columbia with their dog, Boris.
