Clients are sometimes surprised during our first meeting that I will spend more time on the personal issues, rather than focusing on their assets, portfolio, and net worth. It’s not that the numbers are not important; they are, especially for a prior CPA with both a public and corporate finance background. The "numbers" are extremely important, it’s just that understanding a client as to who they are, how they think, and what really matters to them is what ultimately drives financial recommendations and decisions.
Though my focus begins on my clients “non-financial being”, that is not to say I take the numbers lightly. A solid commitment to, and understanding of the numbers, is the root of every recommendation. It comes from prior experience - nearly 22 years of it. Prior to UBS, I spent 12 years in both public and corporate finance, and now, nearly 10 as a financial advisor, all with UBS. I can honestly say. “I enjoy crunching numbers.”
Clearly, the majority of my advice focuses on current and future wealth management needs, but it goes much deeper than that. Because my focus is not just on the numbers, but also on the personal side, I assist my clients in exploring the ramifications of major decisions such as business changes, vacation / investment property choices, and significant family financial decisions impacting current and future generations.
