Andy's interest in the financial markets began at the young age of 16, when he started riding his bike to the local Merrill Lynch office each day. There, a young broker allowed him access to the office research, and he soon opened his first trading account. When he moved to California, he became a commodities broker and then transitioned to M.L. Stern, a municipal bond firm, where he found his passion for muni bonds. He has spent the majority of his career at UBS, formerly Paine Webber, building income portfolios. His philosophy, honed over many years, is that the consensus can be wrong, and following the crowd is not the way to succeed.
Andy has a deep seated commitment to his community. He has been an active volunteer and catalyst for change at many organizations, strengthening and improving each through his leadership. His roles have included President of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, Investment Committee Chair at organizations such as the Jewish Community Foundation, Treasurer at the United Jewish Federation, Chair for Development at the National Conflict Resolution Center, and member of the Board of Directors at various San Diego and national organizations. He is also affiliated with Jewish Family Services, the National Leadership Cabinet of UJC, and Congregation Beth Israel.
His professional education and achievements include: Attendance at the University of Michigan, recipient of The Foster Young Leadership Award (1997), recipient "Man of the Year" award, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County (2002), and he has been certified by the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego as a Trusted Charitable Advisor (TCA) (2018).
Outside the office: Andy and his wife Marcie have two children, Cassidy and Harrison. He enjoys coaching his childrens' sports teams, travel, and time at the beach.
