Get the advice you need
Retiring abroad may be a dream come true for many Americans, but it may come with unforeseen financial consequences.
Today, U.S. citizens residing overseas may find it more challenging to find a qualified financial services firm to meet their needs. Both U.S. and foreign governments are currently seeking increased transparency of assets held abroad by their residents and are requesting better communication with one another. To address these concerns and promote cross-border transparency, the U.S. has entered into Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with certain foreign governments under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). The U.S. has requested to receive and has agreed to share financial information on assets held offshore automatically or upon request.
