We meet weekly to identify our macro approach to asset classes and then decide how much risk we are willing to take at different levels and how much of that risk can be reduced. By lowering exposure to what was perceived as risky components, hedging our long stock portfolio with inverse positions and holding a minimal number of bonds, we may help reduce the risk of significant volatility, should it occur.

Our “know what you own” system

Once we agree on an asset allocation range, we evaluate candidates from every angle—value fundamentals, growth and technical. We take the entire universe of domestic and international equities and fixed income as well as commodities, currencies, and other futures contracts and place all of them into a quantitative modeling system that ranks every single position vs. all other securities in that asset class and a cash marker. This is how our “know what you own” system works. When we add a position, it’s not just a ticker symbol, it’s the actual result of multi-level analysis and due diligence that inform our proprietary selection process.
