Senior Vice President–Wealth Management
Financial Advisor
Focused on multigenerational wealth and long-term client relationships
The investment management industry has evolved significantly since I began my career in 1986. What has remained constant is the importance of trusted relationships, families and individuals partnering with advisors who act with integrity, experience and care.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work closely with clients and families to help them grow, preserve and transition wealth across generations. I also had the privilege of working alongside my father for nearly 20 years. An experience that continues to influence how I advise clients today.
That responsibility continues to guide my work today and I remain energized by the relationships still to be built and the opportunities ahead.
When I'm not working with clients, my wife and I enjoy spending time with our four children and extended family. I’m active in several Kansas City organizations, including Avila University, St. Joseph Educational Ministries, Visitation Church, and the KC Plaza Rotary Club. I also enjoy playing golf, hunting, fishing and studying history.
“One of my proudest moments as a professional was being mentioned by a client during his daughter’s wedding reception toast. He thanked me for being helpful in getting his children through college. They are all still clients today” —Gary D. Smith

Specializing in business owners, succession planning and legacy strategy
I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside exceptional clients and families. My perspective was shaped early in life by my father, a successful entrepreneur whose experience highlighted the importance of aligning business success with long-term financial planning.
That experience continues to influence my work today, particularly when advising business owners and families navigating complex financial decisions. Since beginning my career in 1986, I have focused on succession planning, wealth transfer and helping clients think strategically about the lasting impact of their financial decisions.
In 2015, I joined UBS to expand the resources and capabilities available to my clients and to better support their evolving needs.
I’ve seen firsthand how financial decisions impact not just wealth, but lives and legacies behind them, which is why I focus on helping clients make thoughtful decisions that align with their goals and future priorities.
Outside of the office, I enjoy quality time with family and friends, golfing, traveling and working on hobby cars. I also remain actively involved with Kansas State University and related organizations.
